Penha Longa (Atlantic Championship course)
Penha Longa Atlantic course is one of Europe's finest courses and is recommended to anyone staying in the Cascais / Estoril area. The course has held the Portuguese Open on numerous occasions and is consistently ranked highly among Europe's best courses. This is a very challenging course over gently rolling terrain with some magnificent holes and views of the surrounding countryside. This is among Europe's best, and if you play it, you will take home memories of perfectly manicured tees, fairways and greens, superb views of the Sintra Mountains, and a longing to return. Penha Longa also hosts one of the finest all grass practice grounds in Portugal.
Estoril
The prestigious Golf do Estoril, 20 times venue of The Portuguese Open and one of Portugals oldest courses, has stood the stand of time as one of the most enjoyable golfing experiences in the country.
Designed by Mackenzie Ross, this Par 69 course comprises of a fairly straightforward layout rewarding accuracy rather than power. A short course, stretching just 5,262 metres, is set amongst eucalyptus, pine and mimosa trees, giving it a uniquely colourful touch. There are very few water hazards but the real challenge here is the narrow fairways and undulating landscape, which are consistent throughout the design.
Buggies are in short supply here so please make sure your requirements are made known early.
Golf do Estoril is situated in an outstanding location, nestled in one of Europes oldest holiday resorts, making it a great option on your Lisbon golf holiday.
Quinta Do Marinha
An exciting, 18 hole championship golf course designed by the internationally acclaimed golf architect Robert Trent Jones. The first nine holes are set in spectacular countryside while the second nine are on the cliff top, with sensational views over the Atlantic Ocean. The course is dotted with sand and water in true Trent Jones style. Very popular and justifiably so.
Belas
Belas meanders through mounds, affording splendid views of the Sintra hills.
There are five lakes to focus your mind, and a loop of holes surround a small nature reserve. Tough par-4 finishing hole with a lake guarding the green. Also, note the 2nd - similar to the famous par-3 13th at Augusta. We would recommend a buggy here.
Oitavos Dunes
Oitavos Dunes opened in 2001, neighbouring Quinta da Marinha just a few minutes drive north along the coast from the centre of Cascais. If the wind blows, which it invariably does, this is a beast! Oitavos Dunes is ranked #58 in the world & #2 in Continental Europe which showcases the extraordinary golf that this course offers. The first few holes navigate tight pine-tree and bunker lined fairways, but then the course opens up and has a true links feel. However, Oitavos Dunes then becomes exposed to the Atlantic breezes, and this coupled with length and some tight drives, has been known to leave a few scorecards in tatters. This course really should be on every serious golfer's itinerary when coming to this area. Oitavos Dunes is easily walkable and has9 hosted the 2006 and 2007 PGA Tour Estoril Open of Portugal.
