Aroeira I
Designed by Frank Pennink and opened in 1973, Aroeira I was affectionately christened the ‘Wentworth of Lisbon’ by the UK press and it is easy to see why. Played through tall avenues of pine forest and surrounded by wildlife and nature, the golf course plays to 6,650 yards and demands accuracy and placement off the tee in order to maximise opportunities to hit the target greens in regulation. The course was the venue for the Portuguese Open in 1996 and 1997 and, in addition to staging several Ladies’ European Tour events, played host to the prestigious European Men’s Club Trophy in 2013.
Aroeira II
The second golf course at Aroeira Golf Club is the Aroeira II. A different style of challenge than its sister course, Aroeira II is layed out across flatter land and features plenty of well placed bunkers and 5 lakes to negotiate. This is a great golf course for different levels of golfing ability, particularly as there are 5 tees on each hole, giving the golfer plenty of options. Aroeira II has hosted the Qualifying School of Ladies European Tour and several Ladies Opens.
Accommodation
Set in a magnificent pinewood with a view of the golf course, Villas Aroeira offers a pleasant stay. The villas can range from 1 to three bedrooms and have all the amenities you could need: an open plan kitchen, lounge area and spacious bathrooms are on offer for guests. The ground floor villas come with a beautiful garden, and the upper level villas come with a balcony, with fantastic views of the Aroeira II golf course. The large swimming pool at Herdade da Aroeira is perfect for cooling down, or having a relaxing swim after a day on the golf course. However if you are looking for more action, there are 4 synthetic turf tennis courts open 7 days a week. This is ideal for a set or two with friends, or have lessons to brush up on your forehand.
